And we headed out...

At about 9pm we had enough of our hotel room so decided to head out and try and get something to eat. We had watched enough of the news reports and wanted to see what was really going on. we walked around the backstreet area by Tokyo Station and were overwhelmed by the amount of people still out.

People queuing to use the phone box, queuing for taxis and buses, and then literally thousands and thousands of people all outside of Tokyo station, just hoping for a train home.

One of the most inventive things we saw was the queue of people outside of Echo Karaoke, we could only assume they were planning to rent the booths for the night. Not a bad Friday night in the scheme of things...

And it has to be said, despite the chaos and the fact that most people couldn't get home tonight, there was a real sense of relief and optimism around the city. We constantly saw groups of friends and colleagues walking about with their white hard hats on, joking around and walking in and out of bars and restaurants. It was really quite reassuring and it cheered us up no end!

Now we first tried to get something to eat from the local supermarkets. However, they were either closed, or the shelves were completely empty. Not a meal in sight! But then, as if it was meant to be, we saw an Irish Pub across the road from us. For the last week, we have prided ourselves on the japanese cuisine we have been experiencing, but tonight we just needed some home comforts. A pint of guiness, a glass of red wine and 2 burgers!

It's been a day we will remember forever, and as we watched the news screens inside the pub, we realised just how lucky we are!

Good night all, for what has been a quite unique day...
