Black Boiled Eggs

After the ferry docked we had a mooch around the local shops and then headed to the cable carts. One thing that had started to become noticeable was a faint smell of wind in the air. Leanne kept blaming me as she usually does, until we learnt that the area was known for it's sulphur springs.

As we got on the carts and headed up the mountain, this smell just kept getting stronger and stronger. Trails of smoke turned into large patches and at some points we were completely engulfed by these sulphur clouds. At the top of the mountain you couldn't get away from it. A very strange and unusual place, like something out of Lord of the Rings. You could see trolls living there!

The other really unusual thing was the local delicacy. Chicken eggs boiled in sulphuric spring water. A chemical reaction makes them turn black and they look crazy! The smell put us off any food at all, and we couldn't even stomach a coffee, let alone a black egg...
